Wesley College Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary/Collaborative Sponsored Research, Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, was the principle author of an article published in the European Journal of Chemistry.
The publication is a peer-reviewed journal that specializes in the documentation of original research and review articles in all areas of chemistry. It is available free as an open access journal online.
In Collaboration with Dennis Neil Kevill of the Department of Chemistry at Northern Illinois University and Chang-Bae Kim of the Department of Chemistry at Dan-Kook University, Dr. D’Souza published “Correlation of the rates of solvolysis of α-bromoisobutyrophenone using both simple and extended forms of the Grunwald-Winstein equation and the application of correlation analysis to related studies.”
In the article the authors explain the role of a carbonyl neighboring group in relation to its adjacent leaving group, in important classes of organic compounds that have applications as pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
This was funded by an ACS PRF grant, the State of Delaware, the NIH-NIGMS-INBRE program, and the NSF-EPSCoR program.
