Wesley College Professor of Chemistry Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza and Northern Illinois University Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Dr. Dennis N. Kevill published a chapter on the chemistry of chloroformate and fluoroformate esters. Such esters were used extensively as war gases during World War I. These chemical compounds have now found new useful purpose in the preparation of herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, and as precursors in the syntheses of several potential prodrugs.
This chapter was published in Recent Developments in Organic Chemistry, 13, pp. 1-38, 2013. Editor, S. G.. Pandalai.
