Delaware BioScience Association (DBA) recognized Wesley College Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary/Collaborative Sponsored Research, Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, at their Igniting Innovation: 2018 Gala on April 19 at the DuPont Country Club. The event attracted top innovations from Delaware with 300+ of the region’s life science industry leaders.
Dr. D’Souza was selected as one of the “Ignitors,” a category that acknowledges those dedicated professionals who support innovation work in Delaware. For his efforts in establishing the Cannon Scholars program, DBA established an endowed scholarship with $20K of seed funding. Any interested companies and individuals can contribute to this endowment.
“It is wonderful to see Dr. D’Souza recognized by the Delaware BioScience Association,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jeffrey K. Gibson. “We are proud of all of the great opportunities his tireless efforts have provided for our students.”
The Cannon Scholars program was designed to recruit and retain academically talented students in biological chemistry, biology, environmental science and mathematics, and are in need of financial aid. To receive an annual scholarship for four years, students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, demonstrate financial need, maintain an annual cumulative GPA of 2.7 and remain a STEM major.
