Orientation & First Year Experience

Welcome to the Wesley College Family! It is such a pleasure to welcome you home!

New Student Orientation at Wesley College occurs in two parts:

1.) Jumpstart Wesley College: A one day summer orientation.

2.) New Student Orientation: A multiple day event, just before classes begin.

Participation in Jumpstart and New Student Orientation are mandatory for new first-year and transfer students, although Jumpstart completed online in some cases.

JUMPSTART WESLEY COLLEGE!

Jumpstart Wesley College will be offered from 9:00am – 12:00pm on the dates below. Online registration will begin on May 13, 2019. Each registration request will be filled on a first-come, first serve basis depending upon the date you submitted you submitted your confirmation deposit.

  • Wednesday, July 31, 2019

When you are eligible to register for Jumpstart, you will receive e-mail notification when the link is open. All incoming students must attend a one-day program on campus in July unless:

  • They are a transfer student.
  • They live over 250 miles away from campus.

Jumpstart provides the students with the opportunity to complete all the items necessary to be enrolled for the fall semester and prepare for move-in including:

  • Finalizing their course schedule
  • Securing their parking permits
  • Completing Financial Aid requirements
  • Creating a Payment Plan

  1. Why should I attend a summer Jumpstart Wesley session?
    • You should come to Jumpstart because the summer program is designed to provide each student and their families with the tools and information necessary for a successful transition to Wesley. We understand that going to college is a huge change in a student’s life which ignites both curiosity and anxiety. Our goal is to expose you to the key information you need to start your career off on the right path and complete all of your enrollment requirements.
  2. What does the Jumpstart Wesley College program look like?
    • Program check-in will take place from 8:30am – 9:00am. A continental breakfast will be offered at that time as well. Following check-in, you will hear brief welcome remarks. Immediately following the welcome remarks, you will meet our Student Jumpstart Leaders who know the program in detail and will be escorting you around campus on that day. The rest of the day, you will be participating in a series of workshops and information sessions designed to assist you with planning for the fall semester. There will also be an opportunity for you to meet with our Financial Aid staff and Business Office staff to finalize your financial aid process and settle your payment arrangements.       • Please Note: This will be a full-day program, ending at 4:00pm, if you have not completed all of your enrollment requirements. All steps of the Jumpstart Wesley College program are important and required in order to finalize your class schedule. Please make travel arrangements accordingly.
  3. How do I make a reservation?
    • Please click here to sign into MyWesley starting on May 13, 2019. Once you have logged in, please click on the “Student” Tab. Scroll down to the bottom and select “Jumpstart Wesley College!”. Each session is limited to a specific number of students to ensure personal attention. Each session is filled on a first-come, first-serve reservation.
      • Please Note: There is not a separate Family Orientation form; there is a parent/guest section included on the student registration form.
  1. How will I know when my reservation is confirmed?
    • Once you have registered for your Jumpstart session, you will receive an automated confirmation e-mail. Following that e-mail, you will receive final confirmation of your attendance at your selected Jumpstart session from a member of the Student Affairs Staff. If for unavoidable reasons it becomes necessary to cancel or change your reservation in any way, you should contact Mark Berry, the Director of Campus Life by phone at (302)-736-2567 or by e-mail, Mark.Berry@wesley.edu. Please be aware that it is the responsibility of the student to make their own travel arrangements to Wesley through airlines, bus companies, and/or travel agencies.
  1. What if I have not submitted the required admissions deposit?
    • Jumpstart Registration Forms cannot be processed until your $400.00 acceptance deposit is on file with our Business Office. The acceptance deposit can be mailed directly to the Business Office (envelope provided with your Admissions acceptance packet or processed online. The acceptance deposit activates you in the College’s computer database and allows you to view your tentative schedule and finalize your course selection at Jumpstart.
  1. If I need to stay overnight to attend Jumpstart, what accommodations are available?
    • You can visit the “Visit Delaware” website for local accommodations.

  1. What is a Jumpstart Student Leader?
    • A Jumpstart Student Leader is a current upperclassmen student who has been trained to facilitate learning activities with incoming students. Jumpstart Student Leaders serve as mentors and are student leaders at the College.
  1. Where do I park on campus for Jumpstart?
  2. Are meals provided?
    • A continental breakfast will be offered during Jumpstart.
  3. What about my Fall class schedule?
    • Completing the online Academic Interest Inventory is the first step to getting the classes you need and want. After that is completed, an academic advisor will create your schedule based upon your major and your choices. Please complete the Academic Interest Inventory form carefully.   4. What if I live far away from Wesley College?
    • It’s still important for you to experience all that we present at Jumpstart! Please indicate your distance on the online Academic Interest Inventory Form. Students living over 250 miles away will be given an alternative. The Office of Student Affairs will send you a link to experience Jumpstart online!
  5. What if I need special accommodations?
    • Accommodations for individuals with disabilities are available upon request by emailing Student Affairs (studaffairs@wesley.edu) or by phone, (302)-736-2567. Please call us as soon as possible, but no less than one week in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
  6. Can I bring children to Jumpstart?
    • It is recommended that young children not attend Jumpstart due to the length and context of the program.
  7. Can I choose my roommate?
    • Definitely! You may pick a roommate during one of the Jumpstart sessions by filling out and submitting a roommate request form to the Office of Residence Life. Who knows, you may meet your future roommate at Jumpstart!
  8. Will I find out where I am living in the residence halls during Jumpstart?
    • Room assignments and other residence life information will be sent to you via your Wesley e-mail account within the first week of August after students have had the opportunity to request roommates during Jumpstart. If you do not receive your assignment by then, please call Residence Life at (302)-736-2506.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

New Student Orientation will take place from Wednesday, August 14, 2019 – Sunday, August 18, 2019. An official schedule for the day will be posted at a later date.

New Student Orientation is a four-day program that takes place in August immediately prior to the beginning of classes. Incoming students are REQUIRED to participate in this program, which is a continuation of Jumpstart. There is no fee for continuing Orientation as the initial acceptance deposit covers the cost of both parts of Orientation.

New and transfer students will be able to move into their residence hall rooms prior to the start of the Orientation program. Students living on-campus will receive their fall housing assignment and specific move-in information from the Office of Residence Life by the first week of August. If you have not received your housing assignment by that date, please contact Residence Life at (302) 736-2506.

All first-year transfer or commuting students are required to attend all four days of Orientation. All meals will be provided during Orientation for commuter students who do not have a meal plan for the fall semester.

If an incoming student is participating in a fall sport, the respective coach for that team should have information regarding required pre-season activities.
