Wesley Students Inducted into Sigma Beta Delta Business International Honor Society

The Wesley College Chapter of Sigma Beta Delta Business International Honor Society held its induction ceremony on Sunday, April 9 in Wesley’s College Center. The keynote speaker was Travis Vogl, class of 2011 and 2010 Wesley College Business Honor Society inductee, who is currently employed as a financial analyst with Chesapeake Utilities Incorporated, a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Nine Wesley students; Adrianne Bautista, Oakley Dieter, Adam Hand, Jennifer Moran, John Ruisch, Derrick Schleich, Jenna Stevens, Malcolm Sudler, and Shuning Wang, were inducted into the Honor Society.

The inductees were selected by the chapter faculty officers’ nominating committee of Sigma Beta Delta, within the MBNA School of Business and Accounting at Wesley based on character, academic excellence and showing promise for future achievements.

To be considered for the honor society, the students must major in business and accounting, rank in the top 20% of their junior year, senior year and master’s program and receive an invitation from the chapter advisor who also serves as president of the Business Honor Society.

The Wesley College chapter was chartered in the fall of 2008 and held its first induction ceremony in spring 2009 with 12 inductees.

“We are excited to be able to continue a tradition that follows a 200-year tradition history of honoring scholastic achievement in higher education, beginning with the establishment of Phi Beta Kappa honor society in Williamsburg, VA.,” said Chapter President and Advisor Dr. Kathleen Jacobs.

Sigma Beta Delta is one of the few honor societies that require its officers to be faculty members who are also members of the honor society. The Wesley College Chapter faculty officers are: Professor of Business Management, Dr. Kathleen Jacobs, President and Chapter Advisor; Director of MBNA School of Business and Accounting and Associate Professor of Accounting, Marilyn Johnson, Vice-President; Professor of Economics, Dr. Saharat Pongsree, Treasurer; and Professor of Business Administration, Dr. Kraiwinee Bunyaratavej, Secretary.
