Wesley Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy Dr. Dawnn Thomas obtained the recognition of Board Certification in Gerontology, a distinction that has been accomplished by less than 1% of all OTs nationally.
The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Board Certification is based on peer-review that includes (1) demonstration of relevant experience, (2) a reflective portfolio, and (3) ongoing professional development.
Board Certifications are available in four different areas in occupational therapy (OT) – Gerontology, Mental Health, Pediatrics, and Physical Rehabilitation. Board Certification is a formal recognition for those who have engaged in a voluntary process of ongoing, focused, and targeted professional development. Attainment of certification demonstrates a strong level of commitment to the profession, the practice area of Gerontology, and consumer care.
“We are so pleased that Professor Thomas has earned this recognition,” said Chair and Director of Graduate Programs in Occupational Therapy Dr. Varleisha Gibbs. “It is a true testament to her dedication to the profession and her students.”
