Wesley College biological chemistry sophomores Catherine (Catie) Gross and Kaylee Miller have been selected to present an undergraduate research project in organic chemistry at the annual Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) Posters on the Hill event.
This project has been competitively selected by the Council from a pool of more than 800 national applications. Only 60 posters were selected to be showcased to members of Congress on Capitol Hill on April 24. The students, under the direction of Wesley Professor of Chemistry Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, received undergraduate research assistantships through the Delaware NIH-INBRE grant.
The undergraduate research project selected evaluates the solvent chemistry of a peptide protecting group. Such an analysis should provide valuable insights into protein biosynthesis.
“Catie and Kaylee are an excellent representation of the Wesley student ability,” said D’Souza. “Given an opportunity, they excelled. It is rewarding to see our students being recognized nationally.” Both students are members of the Wesley College Honors program.
