Wesley College education majors, Suzy Betts, Taylor Adkins and Assistant Professor of Education, Dr. Tina Mitchell attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference (NCTM) in Philadelphia on October 31 – November 2, 2016.
The integrated math and science methods course in Wesley’s Department of Education requires students to obtain membership into the NCTM, a national organization of more than 80,000 mathematics educators to promote equitable practices and policy in mathematics education. NCTM hosts a variety of professional learning opportunities for teachers including this regional conference held in Philadelphia with free registration for student teachers.
“The student’s got hands-on learning experiences and resources they could immediately use and implement back in their classrooms with their students,” said Dr. Mitchell. “They also had the opportunity to network and learn from seasoned math teachers from other states.”
Financial support was provided through the Delaware EPSCoR (Experimental Project to Stimulate Competitive Research) program funded by the National Science Foundation and the State of Delaware DEDO program under grant number IIA EPS-1301765.
