The Wesley College Chapter of Sigma Beta Delta Business International Honor Society held its 10th Anniversary induction ceremony on Sunday, April 8, 2018 in Wesley’s College Center. The keynote speaker was Wesley Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost Dr. Jeffrey Gibson.
Nine Wesley students; Steven Foster (Henrico, VA), Adam Gibson (Lawrenceville, NJ) , James Griffith (Charlotte, NC), Vincent Jubilee (Smyrna, DE), Travis Miller (Harrington, DE), Philip Moore (Dover, DE), Gloria Ofori (Dover, DE), Natalie Quigley (Georgetown, DE), Joseph Simmons (Felton, DE), were inducted into the Honor Society.
The inductees were selected by the chapter faculty officers’ nominating committee of Sigma Beta Delta, within the MBNA School of Business and Accounting at Wesley based on character, academic excellence and showing promise for future achievements.
To be considered for induction into the honor society, the students must major in business and accounting, achieved class status of their junior year, senior year and master’s program. The students must be nominated by full-time business faculty who serve as honor society officers. Based upon the decision of the nominating committee the students will receive an invitation from the chapter advisor who also serves as president of the Business Honor Society.
The Wesley College chapter was chartered in the fall of 2008 and held its first induction ceremony in spring 2009 with 12 inductees. This year marks its 10th Anniversary at Wesley College.
“We are excited to be able to continue a tradition that follows a 200-year history of honoring scholastic achievement in higher education, beginning with the establishment of Phi Beta Kappa honor society in Williamsburg, VA.,” said Chapter President and Advisor Dr. Kathleen Jacobs.
Sigma Beta Delta is one of the few honor societies that requires its officers to be faculty members who are also members of the honor society. The Wesley College Chapter faculty officers are: Professor of Business Management, Dr. Jacobs; Director of MBNA School of Business and Accounting and Associate Professor of Accounting, Marilyn Johnson, vice president; Professor of Economics, Dr. Saharat Pongsree, treasurer; and Professor of Business Administration, Dr. Kraiwinee Bunyaratavej, secretary.
