Dover, DE – At the start of the fall 2009 semester, Wesley College recognized 50 students for their outstanding academic excellence and service to their community. Through the assistance and generosity of numerous donors, the College awarded $81,000 in endowed scholarships to students who demonstrated classroom achievement and financial need. “As a result of the caring and generous spirit of countless donors who have established legacies to family members, mentors and friends through endowed scholarships at Wesley College, today’s deserving students are the beneficiaries,” said Chris Wood, Wesley’s vice-president for institutional advancement. “The excellence of our students is the reward for the generosity of our donors,” he added. The College’s institutional advancement office is planning an endowed scholarship luncheon in the spring, which will pay special tribute to donors for their support and recognize the scholarship recipients for their accomplishments.

The annual scholarship event is designed to give Wesley students the opportunity to meet and thank the individuals responsible for financially supporting their college education.

Each year, an estimated 90 percent of students who attend Wesley College receive various types of financial aid, including scholarship awards. The endowed scholarship fund aims to ensure that a Wesley College degree remains within the reach of all qualified undergraduates, who meet the criteria set-forth within the scholarship guidelines.
