Dr. Lynn Lofthouse

Associate Professor of Speech Communications

Why I Teach

I love to know that I have made a difference in the lives of students. Every semester I see students come into my classes, both excitedly and apprehensively. In each class, I try to give students the information and encouragement they need to accomplish the assignments successfully, and to believe in their ability to succeed in college and beyond. My reward is seeing how they have been transformed by the end of the semester, knowing I had some small part in their success. Some students articulate how the skills I have given them have helped in other classes already; talk about making my day. I would not give this up for anything.

Professional Activities

I have presented conference papers at both national and international conferences for the last thirty years. I won recognition for the best paper at the International Academy for Linguistics, Behavioral and Social Sciences Conference in 2009 and 2010. At Wesley College, I serve on the College Assessment Committee, and have headed the Institutional Review Board. In the community, I am an active volunteer who has served on the board of directors of the Kent County SPCA since 1992, sponsoring and participating in fund raising events and publicizing issues to help improve the lives of our four-legged friends.
