Fit-to-Serve Learning Community

FIT TO SERVE COLORFirst-year students who participate in this learning community in Carpenter Hall will have a common interest in community service. Students will enroll in Dr. Jessica James’ First-Year Seminar “Hungry for Change,” a course that focuses on food culture in American society. Students also enroll in EN100 College Writing I together.

The “Hungry for Change” seminar will include a service learning component—a teaching strategy that connects course objectives with community needs. Students will learn about hunger and poverty and then provide service to the Dover community through a partnership with the Delaware Food Bank. Students partner with local agencies to identify families in need of food and then bring a Delaware Food Bank Mobile Pantry to Wesley’s campus.

This learning community will have study hours and peer mentoring in the residence hall.

To qualify, students must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and qualify for EN 100: College Writing I.
